Antique Book “The Travels of Cosmo the Third,” Translated in English, 1821 Editi
"The Travels of Cosmo the Third", Translated in English from the Italian Manuscript in the Laurentian Library at Florence, c.1821 Edition. Printed for London, J. Mawman. This book depicts The Grand Duke of Tuscany's Cosimo de' Medici's 1669 European tour, primarily England and Ireland, a beautifully illustrated manuscript written by his travel companion Count Lorenzo Magalotti (1637-1712), an Italian philosopher, author and poet, with sketches by a traveling artist. Cosimo's 53 year reign was the longest in Tuscan history (1670-1723). This leather bound book is an 1821 engraved version of the original. Few copies were published, making it highly collectible and revered. The gray scale sketches are lovely, frame worthy on their own. This is more than a book, it's a historical piece of Italian culture, a meaningful heirloom book that deserves to be preserved and passed on to future generations!
