Glazed Terracotta Roman Wall Plaque
Old Greek Roman terracotta plaque with hand-crafted side profile of a Roman emperor, most likely Hadrian, an ancient Roman emperor from 117 to 138 CE. It has a beautiful Mediterranean palette of terracotta, aged crisp-white and oceanic blues. The terracotta background has dark worn speckles throughout with an aged crackle-glazed finish that lends a great sense of antiquity and uniqueness. It has a nautical element without feeling like a theme, more than anything it feels inherited, old world. Framing the emperor is a hand-painted Mediterranean blue-and-white circular wave motif with "ADRIANVS" inscribed at the top. Hadrian (officially named Publius Aelius Hadrianus) was also referred to as Adrianus; the “V” was often used as a “U” – therefore spelling Adrianus. Thick and heavy, ready to hang with a bracket embedded on its reverse. It would be fabulously unexpected hung in an outdoor (covered) cabana or above a tub given its palette and relevance. If you like pieces with a great story to tell, this is for you!
Thick and heavy, it’s ready to hang with a bracket embedded on the back side. It’s a perfect design accessory for an outdoor covered cabana because it’s so stylish, relevant, and durable…and it has an outdoor palette, a great combination that is not easy to find! It could easily go in a bathroom or kitchen, areas that are also challenging when it comes to accessorizing, it can go anywhere really! These found, architectural, garden pieces are becoming more rare!
