Antique C. 1800's Louis XIII Side or Cocktail Table, by Merklen Bros.
A great side or cocktail table made by Merklen Bros, c.1800’s. During the late 19th century, Merklen Bros introduced elaborately turned furniture to America influenced by French Louis XIII-style. The table’s signature detail, double spiral, open-twist canted legs - is the kind of woodworking detail that is virtually impossible to replicate today. The tabletop has a spiral rope molding around the apron, mirroring the twisted leg silhouette. A great table for those who desire casual understated luxury, especially perfect for homes with traditional Spanish architecture. Originally crafted as a library table, this piece dates from the 1800's and has since been adapted into a side table. Its cast brass feet were removed, and the spherical terminations were carefully shaved down making it more casual, less ornate. A treasured find for interior design enthusiasts of unique pieces that bring history and personality to your home.
