Rare Set of 6 Maison Jansen Curule Chairs
CHA-007
A rare, coveted, set of (6) curule dining chairs, made by Maison Jansen. A true collector's gem, a timeless, chic set! Upholstered exclusively for THE TASTEMAKER SHOPPE in luxurious, Kravet Couture Collection, velvet striped fabric - “Esoteric/Aged Bronze”. This exclusive fabric is no longer in production, making these chairs more “specialty & found”. Seat cushions are tailored (like the originals) with welting and tufted buttons, in black Moore & Giles leather. These chairs exemplify Maison Jansen’s iconic, French-Italian aesthetic. Modern, Art Deco, black iron frames with brass accents, are representative of the custom furniture they produced between 1920’s and 1950 – these frames are stamped on the bottom of the brass feet, ensuring authenticity and craftsmanship.
Maison Jansen, the legendary Paris-based design firm founded in 1880, was famous for blending classic, traditional styles with modern sophistication. They were internationally commissioned by royalty and heads of state – their most publicized project was for the White House, during the John F. Kennedy administration. Jacqueline Kennedy commissioned Boudin & Paul Manno, the head of Jansen's New York office, to redecorate rooms in the White House. They designed the White House’s iconic “Red Room”, and the “Chambel IV” yacht”, later renamed “NorthWind II”, for the Kennedys. If you enjoy a story with great provenance, these chairs are for you! As a Curator & Interior Designer, these are the stories & timeless qualities I seek – knowing it will transcend time, always in style, never trendy. A treasured find for collectors and enthusiasts of unique and one-of-a-kind pieces.
