Beautiful Rare Louis XIII Table by the Merklen Brothers
TAB-030
An extraordinary side table, made by Merklen Bros, circa 1800’s. During the late 19th century, Merklen Bros. introduced elaborately turned furniture to America, influenced by French Louis XIII-style. The table’s signature detail, double spiral, open-twist, canted legs - the kind of woodworking detail that is virtually impossible to replicate today. The tabletop has a spiral rope molding around the apron, mirroring the legs' twisted silhouette. This is a great table, especially for those who want casual, understated luxury, especially perfect for Spanish, Santa Barbara style architecture. Originally crafted as a library table, this collectable piece dates from the 1890s and has since been adapted into a side table. Its cast brass feet were removed, and the spherical terminations were carefully shaved down. Small holes in the ball feet remain as subtle reminders of its original form, adding to the authenticity and historical character of the piece. As a Curator and Interior Designer, these are the timeless qualities I seek – knowing it will transcend time, always in style, never trendy. A treasured find for collectors and enthusiasts of one-of-a-kind pieces that bring unique style and personality to your home.
